Doug, along with many generations of his family, hails from Wildwood, New Jersey. An early knack the guitar and an early ability to grow a beard had him playing in Jersey Shore bar bands at an inappropriately young age.
College in Vermont taught Doug how to drive in the snow. In Maine he was a reporter at a small newspaper on the coast. In Massachusetts Doug learned how to play bluegrass and old-time American music as a frequenter of the famous Tuesday night picking parties at The Can Tab in Central Square.
He took all the songs he had written or found and moved to California chasing his college sweetheart who would later become his bride. And now Doug is in Santa Monica, California – because a boy from down the shore is happiest when he is within walking distance of a Ferris Wheel.
Doug studies epidemiology at The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and is always happy to discuss music, public health, or any combination of the two.
